Le FC Bayern est de loin le club le plus titré d'Allemagne, raison pour laquelle il est appelé ‘Der Rekordmeister’. Mais il fait également partie de ce qui se fait de mieux au niveau européen. Le club munichois a en effet remporté 6 fois la Ligue des Champions, soit autant que Liverpool. Seuls le Real Madrid et l'AC Milan ont fait mieux, avec respectivement 14 et 7 victoires. Avec Manchester United, Ajax, Juventus, en Chelsea, les Bavarois font d'ailleurs partie du club très sélect d'équipes qui ont remporté les trois coupes d'Europe : Coupe des clubs champions européens / Ligue des Champions, Coupe des Coupes / Coupe d'Europe II et Coupe de l'UEFA / Ligue Europa. Enfin, le Bayern est la seule équipe allemande à avoir remporté le triplé championnat, coupe et Ligue des Champions. Aux débuts, l'autre club de la ville, le TSV 1860 München, était la meilleure équipe. Ce n'est que depuis 1965 que le Bayern Munich est un grand club, avec le début de l'ère Franz Beckenbauer, le légendaire joueur munichois.

À ses débuts, le Bayern Munich évoluait en bleu et blanc, inspiré par le drapeau bavarois, que l'on retrouve d'ailleurs toujours dans le logo du club. C'est après la fusion avec le Munich Sports Clubs, plus puissant financièrement, que la nouvelle structure a adopté le blanc et le rouge. Et le Bayern allait continuer à jouer en rouge après le divorce d'avec MSC. Après plusieurs retours du bleu de la Bavière dans les tenues rouges du club, le Bayern Munich joue finalement entièrement en rouge ou en blanc depuis 1999. Au-dessus de l'emblème du club situé sur le maillot, pas moins de cinq étoiles symbolisent le nombre de titres de Bundesliga décrochés par le club : une étoile après 3 titres, une seconde après 5 titres, trois après 10 titres, une quatrième après 20 titres et la cinquième et dernière étoile après 30 titres de champion. La marque sportive Adidas conçoit les maillots du Bayern de Munich depuis 1974 déjà, ce qui constitue un fait unique dans le football.

Les meilleurs joueurs du Bayern Munich
Qui dit Bayern Munich, dit Franz Beckenbauer. L'arrivée sur la scène du légendaire joueur allemand coïncida en effet avec de nombreux trophées remportés par le club bavarois. Mais d'autres joueurs vedettes comme Lewandowski, Müller, Kahn, Klose, Rummenigge et Matthäus firent également les beaux jours du FC Bayern. Pour l'anecdote, le club fut rebaptisé FC Hollywood pendant une période de crise dans le courant des années 1990 car les joueurs de l'époque se faisaient plus remarquer par leurs frasques que par leurs exploits sur le terrain. Pendant les années 80, notre compatriote Jean-Marie Pfaff fut le gardien titulaire et le chouchou du public au Bayern. Il remporta trois titres de champion et deux coupes avec le Bayern. Pfaff se rendit célèbre notamment par sa faculté d'arrêter les penalties.
